Week 1: Wisdom Is Given
One of the greatest things we hope for our children is that
they would be wise. For this new month, this new year, we
are spending four weeks in the Word seeking wisdom. In
the first week of this month we learn that wisdom is given.
The Lord above is the one who gifts wisdom to us. The
encouragement this week is to learn that wisdom is not
discovered within, but given.
THIS IS YOUR DAILY SCRIPTURE:
But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peace-loving, gentle, compli-
ant, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without pretense (James
3:17 CSB).
THIS IS YOUR DAILY PRAYER:
Lord, Your wisdom is pure and without fail. It is always peace-loving for me
and my family. It is gentle and caring for us in a way that gives us hope.
Your wisdom is full of mercy and always leads to good fruits in our life. It is
unwavering and without pretense in all situations. May I always live by your
wisdom and not my own.

PARENT PRE-READING:
Proverbs 2:6 CSB
For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and under-
standing.
CONVERSATION STARTER:
I was reading in Proverbs 2 and it reminded me that the Lord gives wisdom. I
really want to pray for you today. What is an area of your life right now where
you need Godly wisdom?
SEEKING WISDOM
Who is someone in your family or known by your family that is
much older and you would consider wise. Make sometime as a
family to hear from them. Plan out as a family questions that you
would like to ask them.
Really think about this and come with at least a few questions that
break the ice. Let them know that you want to learn about their life
and times of great joy or maybe even hardship. You will find that
you will learn so much not only about this loved one but yourself
as well.
STARTING QUESTIONS!
Has there ever been a time in your life that you felt like you needed wis-
dom to know what to do?
DEEPENING QUESTION
Can I share a time in my life that I felt like I needed wisdom?
READ THIS TOGETHER
Read together: James 1:5-8 (CSB) Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he
should ask God—who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly—and it
will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith without doubting. For the
doubter is like the surging sea, driven and tossed by the wind. 7 That
person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord, 8 being dou-
ble-minded and unstable in all his ways.
SCRIPTURAL APPLICATION QUESTIONS
Why do you think God would give us wisdom so generously? What does
this show us about His character?
Why does it seem like God would want us to ask for wisdom with such
strong faith?
Do you think there would be a link between having faith in God and hav-
ing wisdom?
