LIVING HOPE CHRISTIAN CHURCH

How shall we sing the Lords song in a foreign land? Psalm 137:4 (ESV)
Let me first express my deep appreciation and gratitude to God our Father for
you, my church family for being there for one another and to those who were
in need during the highs and lows of the pandemic. You have been and always
will be a big part of why I continue to serve the Lord through Living Hope.
Now, as we look forward to the end of restrictions and lockdown and hopefully
the season ender of COVID-19 thriller, my big question to all of us is, How are
we to function as a church in this foreign environment? I do hope its not
business as usual.
Throughout church history, we can observe a consistent pattern of God
scattering the church for mission. God used different means like persecutions,
wars, famine, economic crisis, pandemics and natural disasters. Remember, the
church exist for the great commission not the other way around. Our gathering
and scattering must all be for the sake of the mission. All the current ministries
that exist in our church must exist solely for the mission. All our resources be
it financial and manpower must be spent to support the mission.
As we persevere to be both gathered and scattered church, we must be faithful
to the four key functions of the church:
Kerygma: is the proclamation of the gospel that calls for repentance of sin and
faith in Christ.
Koinonia: is the demonstration of the character of the new society.
Diakonia: is the reconciliation, healing and other forms of service
Marturia: is becoming Christlike and witnessing to the ends of the earth, even
unto death.
Moving forward, we will be able to sing the Lords song in this new
environment. Our identity and function is not tied to a building but firmly
grounded in Jesus Christ who is our Lord and Saviour. Our best years are ahead
of us. Give yourself fully to the Lord this new season, a season of new
beginning.

whether in person, online or a

different ways.
We celebrate how the gospel was

celebrate the souls added to the kingdom
of God through this effort.
We celebrate coming together for 21 Days

We were successful in planning and executing a
number of events; bridal showers, baby showers
and Mothers day gathering.
Good: In hosting these events, we were able to
reach out to extended family members, friends
who wouldnt normally come to church service
Bad: Absence of an intentional effort to follow
these guests up is needed so its not just a one-time
encounter
Ugly: no face to face interaction makes the
meetings less personal
Need to have an evaluation conducted after every
event so as to measure the results, and identify
weaknesses so we can plan and execute better for

Good: Small group participation among
members have been more active and steady
Needs improvement: Lack of focus and zeal,
preparation, sense of apathy towards

members.
The lack of zeal in some of our small group
leaders, and the affected members:
Inconsistent attendance of some small group
members.
Unfamiliarity with the means of meeting
through Zoom.
Inactive or rather, uninvolved members who
might have not been followed up nor visited.
Unresponsive members after doing follow up.

and beyond our borders through those who
responded to the call to share the link. The result of
our Easter celebration had more or less 250 more
views than usual and the church anniversary had 150

Mothers Online Gathering - Through the
partnership of the Ladies Ministry, there were about
40 mothers who gathered and approximately 30% of
them were not from LHCC. The gospel was shared to
moms of different ages/stages locally and abroad and
we heard one who prayed the prayer of acceptance
and for that we rejoice with the angels in heaven
over one sinner who repents (Luke 15:10).

families who felt the love of Christ
through our gift giving. Most of all, the
gospel was shared to around 600 people
through the tracts/letters that were given

Online Tax Clinic - We appreciate and

There are many opportunities to share and its not
too difficult during the pandemic because of the

In the absence of in-person meetings, creativity in
presenting ideas/announcements/reminders and even
success stories help to encourage, motivate, and bring

Managing the ministry was quite challenging because
we werent part of the planning so we didnt have the
clearest view of our roles/responsibilities or the
whole plan/assignment.
When leaders/our partners didnt respond to our
messages or requests for updates, we werent sure if
information and events were promoted to their small
group members.
Since theres a pandemic, there was some hesitation
to do in-person outreach

Learn to read and interpret the Bible better: the
challenge here is learning to read the bible on
our own is difficult. We set some key
foundations on how to read and interpret the
Bible better so that we can know Jesus better.
Learn to facilitate meetings: the approach
towards this goal was that everyone was a leader
in their own way but we wanted to learn how to
facilitate meetings individually as a skill. This
was met with willingness and even though it was
more difficult for others, it was done very well.
Challenges faced in accomplishing goals
Some of our ministry goals were as follows:
1.
2.
Opportunities you foresee next year
There are so many opportunities as our young
adults continue to grow. As the former leaders
transition out (AJ & Michelle) we see the
opportunity of new leaders rising up and taking
their place. More than that, we see this generation
already taking their place. There is a greater
opportunity for the church to hear from this
generation and what they have learned in Christ.
We hope to see that happen in the years to come.
What to celebrate? God is at work
We celebrate Gods good work in the lives of
our young adults as we grow in number with
more youth transitioning into college. We
see God at work in the lives of our students
as they engage their new lives as college
students with new challenges and questions.
We also see God at work at our weekly
meetings that persisted despite leadership
changes. It showed commitment to learning
the Word together and keeping their
fellowship despite not being able to meet in
person.
We also celebrate the brief period we were
able to meet in person during the summer of
2020 and we recognize that God does always
need a physical gathering for His Spirit to
work in us. We celebrate the growing
leadership and relationships as the young
adults journey together in life.
Lessons learned. (the good, bad & ugly)
We learned lessons about ourselves
throughout our studies in the book of
Romans, Psalms, and Philippians. The bad
news is that we are sinners that often mess
up but the good news is that Jesus has saved
us, is saving us, and will save us. This is a
beautiful lesson we learned as a group as we
journeyed through our imperfections and
mistakes that run deep within our soul. Not
only were we open to each other but we
became more open to the Spirit as it did its
transformative work in our lives.

Our Purpose is the Great
Commission as stated in Matthew
28:18-20 This is our purpose until
Christ return. This is a very deep
sense of why, underlying reason
that is the foundation behind
everything that you do.
“To reach out to every nations to
bring them into the knowledge of a
living relationship with Jesus
Christ, establish them to live as
Christ-centered believers and raise
them to become disciple makers.”
Theme for this year: "To Go-Be
One, Make One"
1.PURPOSE: Why do we
exist?
2. MISSION: This is what's
most important to us this
season as a church.
This is the most important
church-wide goal for 2021-2022.
“To see 80% of membership faithfully
participating in church life and to
invite and connect 80 new people to
the fellowship.”
3. VISION: What do we
imagine or envision our
future like.
This vision is aligned with our
purpose and what we will pursue
until Christ return. Vision is a word
picture that describes the future.
We imagine a generation of disciple
makers (spiritual parents) . We
imagine a church that every
generation is fully engaged in being
and making disciples.
4. STRATEGY: How are we
to accomplish our mission?
Our strategy outlines how we
disciple people. The strategy
outlines the process on how to
move people to fully engage church
life. This strategy is church-wide.
Every ministry will use this
strategy to support our purpose,
mission and vision.
