Revelation 12:9–10 (ESV) — 9
And the great dragon was thrown
down, that ancient serpent, who is
called the devil and Satan, the
deceiver of the whole world—he
was thrown down to the earth, and
his angels were thrown down with
him. 10 And I heard a loud voice in
heaven, saying, “Now the salvation
and the power and the kingdom of
our God and the authority of his
Christ have come, for the accuser
of our brothers has been thrown
down, who accuses them day and
night before our God.

Genesis 6:1-4
Genesis 6:1–4 (ESV) — 1 When man began to
multiply on the face of the land and daughters
were born to them, 2 the sons of God saw that
the daughters of man were attractive. And they
took as their wives any they chose. 3 Then the
Lord said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man
forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120
years.” 4 The Nephilim were on the earth in
those days, and also afterward, when the sons
of God came in to the daughters of man and
they bore children to them. These were the
mighty men who were of old, the men of renown.
Son’s of God
Job 1:6–8 (ESV) — 6 Now there was a day when the sons of
God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan
also came among them. 7 The Lord said to Satan, “From
where have you come?” Satan answered the Lord and said,
“From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking up and
down on it.” 8 And the Lord said to Satan, “Have you
considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the
earth, a blameless and upright man, who fears God and turns
away from evil?”
Job 38:4–7 (ESV) — 4 “Where were you when I laid
the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have
understanding. 5 Who determined its measurements
—surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it?
6 On what were its bases sunk, or who laid its
cornerstone, 7 when the morning stars sang together
and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
Deuteronomy 4:19 (ESV) — 19 And beware lest you raise
your eyes to heaven, and when you see the sun and the moon
and the stars, all the host of heaven, you be drawn away and
bow down to them and serve them, things that the Lord your
God has allotted to all the peoples under the whole heaven.
The Divine Council
Deuteronomy 29:25–27 (ESV) — 25 Then people will say, ‘It is
because they abandoned the covenant of the Lord, the God of
their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them out
of the land of Egypt, 26 and went and served other gods and
worshiped them, gods whom they had not known and whom he
had not allotted to them. 27 Therefore the anger of the Lord was
kindled against this land, bringing upon it all the curses written in
this book,
The Divine Council
Jeremiah 23:16–22 (ESV) — 16 Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Do
not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you, filling
you with vain hopes. They speak visions of their own minds, not
from the mouth of the Lord. 17 They say continually to those who
despise the word of the Lord, ‘It shall be well with you’; and to
everyone who stubbornly follows his own heart, they say, ‘No
disaster shall come upon you.’!18 For who among them has
stood in the council of the Lord to see and to hear his word,
or who has paid attention to his word and listened?
Prophets Stand in the Divine Council
PART 2
Genesis 6:1-4
Genesis 6:1–4 (ESV) — 1 When man began to
multiply on the face of the land and daughters
were born to them, 2 the sons of God saw that
the daughters of man were attractive. And they
took as their wives any they chose. 3 Then the

What is the dierence
between a god and an idol?
A god is a created spiritual
being"
An idol is a physical image
that is meant to be a sort of
home for a god to live in.
Exodus 20:3–4 (ESV) — 3 “You
shall have no other gods before me.
4 “You shall not make for yourself a
carved image, or any likeness of
anything that is in heaven above, or
that is in the earth beneath, or that
is in the water under the earth.
We must be careful not to unwittingly
remove the first commandment by
combining the first and second into one.
Roman Catholic
Idolatry and the gods
1 Corinthians 10:19–20 (ESV)
19 What do I imply then? That food
oered to idols is anything, or that
an idol is anything? 20 No, I imply
that what pagans sacrifice they
oer to demons and not to God. I
do not want you to be participants
with demons."
Deuteronomy 18:9–14 (ESV) — 9 “When you come into
the land that the Lord your God is giving you, you shall
not learn to follow the abominable practices of those
nations. 10 There shall not be found among you anyone
who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, anyone
who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets
omens, or a sorcerer 11 or a charmer or a medium or a
necromancer or one who inquires of the dead, 12 for
whoever does these things is an abomination to the
Lord. And because of these abominations the Lord your
God is driving them out before you. 13 You shall be
blameless before the Lord your God, 14 for these
nations, which you are about to dispossess, listen to
fortune-tellers and to diviners. But as for you, the Lord
your God has not allowed you to do this.
God forbids his people to seek other gods
Ezekiel 23:37–39 (ESV) — 37 For they have committed adultery,
and blood is on their hands. With their idols they have committed
adultery, and they have even offered up to them for food the
children whom they had borne to me. 38 Moreover, this they have
done to me: they have defiled my sanctuary on the same day and
profaned my Sabbaths. 39 For when they had slaughtered their
children in sacrifice to their idols, on the same day they came into
my sanctuary to profane it. And behold, this is what they did in my
house.
God has made a covenant with his people. So when his
people worship other gods, through their idols, God often
describes this idolatry as adultery (not superstition). In
other words, they didn’t have an aair with nobody.
2 Kings 3:26–27 (ESV) — 26 When the
king of Moab saw that the battle was
going against him, he took with him 700
swordsmen to break through, opposite
the king of Edom, but they could not. 27
Then he took his oldest son who was to
reign in his place and offered him for a
burnt offering on the wall. And there
came great wrath against Israel. And they
withdrew from him and returned to their
own land.
The gods of the nations are real
2 Kings 1:1–4 (ESV) — 1 After the death of Ahab,
Moab rebelled against Israel. 2 Now Ahaziah fell
through the lattice in his upper chamber in Samaria,
and lay sick; so he sent messengers, telling them,
“Go, inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron,
whether I shall recover from this sickness.” 3 But
the angel of the Lord said to Elijah the Tishbite,
“Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of
Samaria, and say to them, ‘Is it because there is
no God in Israel that you are going to inquire of
Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron? 4 Now therefore
thus says the Lord, You shall not come down from
the bed to which you have gone up, but you shall
surely die.’!” So Elijah went.
Ahaziah inquires of another god
Deuteronomy 32:7–9 (ESV) — 7
Remember the days of old; consider the
years of many generations; ask your
father, and he will show you, your elders,
and they will tell you. 8 When the Most
High gave to the nations their inheritance,
when he divided mankind, he fixed the
borders of the peoples according to the
number of the sons of God. 9 But the
Lord’s portion is his people, Jacob his
allotted heritage.
The Divine Council
Tower of Babel
Daniel 10:12–14 (ESV) — 12 Then he said to
me, “Fear not, Daniel, for from the first day
that you set your heart to understand and
humbled yourself before your God, your
words have been heard, and I have come
because of your words. 13 The prince of the
kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-
one days, but Michael, one of the chief
princes, came to help me, for I was left
there with the kings of Persia, 14 and came
to make you understand what is to happen to
your people in the latter days. For the vision
is for days yet to come…”
The gods of the nations
Daniel 10:20–21 (ESV) — 20 Then
he said, “Do you know why I have
come to you? But now I will return
to fight against the prince of
Persia; and when I go out, behold,
the prince of Greece will come. 21
But I will tell you what is inscribed in
the book of truth: there is none who
contends by my side against these
except Michael, your prince.

1 Kings 22: But the king said to him, “How
many times shall I make you swear that you
speak to me nothing but the truth in the name of
the Lord?” 17 And he said, “I saw all Israel
scattered on the mountains, as sheep that have
no shepherd. And the Lord said, ‘These have no
master; let each return to his home in peace.’!
18 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat,
“Did I not tell you that he would not prophesy
good concerning me, but evil?”
1 Kings 22:19–23 (ESV) — 19 And Micaiah said,
“Therefore hear the word of the Lord: I saw the
Lord sitting on his throne, and all the host of
heaven standing beside him on his right hand
and on his left; 20 and the Lord said, ‘Who will
entice Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth-
gilead?’ And one said one thing, and another said
another. 21 Then a spirit came forward and stood
before the Lord, saying, ‘I will entice him.’ 22 And
the Lord said to him, ‘By what means?’ And he said,
‘I will go out, and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of
all his prophets.’ And he said, ‘You are to entice him,
and you shall succeed; go out and do so.’ 23 Now
therefore behold, the Lord has put a lying spirit in
the mouth of all these your prophets; the Lord has
declared disaster for you.”
Psalm 82:1–8 (ESV) — 1 God has taken his place in
the divine council; in the midst of the gods he holds
judgment: 2 “How long will you judge unjustly and
show partiality to the wicked? Selah 3 Give justice to
the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the
afflicted and the destitute. 4 Rescue the weak and
the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.”
5 They have neither knowledge nor understanding,
they walk about in darkness; all the foundations of
the earth are shaken. 6 I said, “You are gods, sons
of the Most High, all of you; 7 nevertheless, like
men you shall die, and fall like any prince.” 8
Arise, O God, judge the earth; for you shall inherit
all the nations!
Judgment of the Divine Council
Isaiah 34:2–5 (ESV) — 2 For the Lord is
enraged against all the nations, and
furious against all their host; he has
devoted them to destruction, has given
them over for slaughter… 4 All the host of
heaven shall rot away, and the skies roll
up like a scroll. All their host shall fall,
as leaves fall from the vine, like leaves
falling from the fig tree. 5 For my sword
has drunk its fill in the heavens; behold,
it descends for judgment upon Edom, upon
the people I have devoted to destruction.
Judgment of the host of heaven
Numbers 33:4 (ESV) — 4 while the Egyptians were
burying all their firstborn, whom the Lord had struck down
among them. On their gods also the Lord executed
judgments.
Psalm 97:7 (ESV) — 7 All worshipers of images are put
to shame, who make their boast in worthless idols;
worship him, all you gods!
Jude 5–7 (ESV) — 5 Now I want to remind you, although
you once fully knew it, that Jesus, who saved a people out
of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not
believe. 6 And the angels who did not stay within their
own position of authority, but left their proper dwelling,
he has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness
until the judgment of the great day— 7 just as Sodom and
Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise
indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire,
serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal
fire.
2 Peter 2:4–10 (ESV) — 4 For if God did not spare angels
when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed
them to chains of gloomy darkness to be kept until the
judgment; 5 if he did not spare the ancient world, but
preserved Noah, a herald of righteousness, with seven others,
when he brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly; …9
then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials, and to
keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of
judgment, 10 and especially those who indulge in the lust
of defiling passion and despise authority. Bold and willful,
they do not tremble as they blaspheme the glorious ones,
Luke 4:5–8 (ESV) — 5 And the devil took him up and
showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of
time, 6 and said to him, “To you I will give all this
authority and their glory, for it has been delivered to me,
and I give it to whom I will. 7 If you, then, will worship me,
it will all be yours.” 8 And Jesus answered him, “It is written,
!‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall
you serve.’!
Did the Devil have the kingdoms to give?
Ephesians 2:1–3 (ESV) — 1 And you were dead in the
trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the
course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air,
the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— 3
among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh,
carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by
nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.
2 Corinthians 4:3–4 (ESV) — 3 And even if our gospel is veiled, it
is veiled to those who are perishing. 4 In their case the god of
this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them
from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the
image of God.
John 12:27–33 (ESV) — 27 “Now is my soul troubled. And what
shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? But for this purpose I
have come to this hour. 28 Father, glorify your name.” Then a
voice came from heaven: “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it
again.” 29 The crowd that stood there and heard it said that it had
thundered. Others said, “An angel has spoken to him.” 30 Jesus
answered, “This voice has come for your sake, not mine. 31 Now
is the judgment of this world; now will the ruler of this world
be cast out. 32 And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw
all people to myself.” 33 He said this to show by what kind of
death he was going to die.
Colossians 2:13–15 (ESV) — 13 And you, who were
dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your
flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven
us all our trespasses, 14 by canceling the record of
debt that stood against us with its legal demands.
This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. 15 He
disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to
open shame, by triumphing over them in him.
Psalm 2:1–12 (ESV) — 1 Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in
vain? 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel
together, against the Lord and against his Anointed, saying, 3 “Let us burst their
bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.” 4 He who sits in the heavens
laughs; the Lord holds them in derision. 5 Then he will speak to them in his
wrath, and terrify them in his fury, saying, 6 “As for me, I have set my King on
Zion, my holy hill.” 7 I will tell of the decree: The Lord said to me, “You are my
Son; today I have begotten you. 8 Ask of me, and I will make the nations
your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession. 9 You shall
break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potters
vessel.” 10 Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the
earth. 11 Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. 12 Kiss the Son,
lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled.
Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
Matthew 17:1–5 (ESV) — 1 And after six days Jesus took with him
Peter and James, and John his brother, and led them up a high
mountain by themselves. 2 And he was transfigured before them, and
his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light. 3 And
behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him. 4
And Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I
will make three tents here, one for you and one for Moses and one for
Elijah.” 5 He was still speaking when, behold, a bright cloud
overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my
beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.”
This is my beloved Son
Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All
authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I
have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to
the end of the age.”
The Great Commission
Matthew 12:27 And if I cast out demons
by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons
cast them out? Therefore they will be
your judges. 28 But if it is by the Spirit of
God that I cast out demons, then the
kingdom of God has come upon you. 29
Or how can someone enter a strong
man’s house and plunder his goods,
unless he first binds the strong man?
Then indeed he may plunder his
house.
Acts 1: 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has
come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem
and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” 9
And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he
was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight.
Luke 24:46–49 (ESV) — 46 and said to them, “Thus it is
written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise
from the dead, 47 and that repentance for the forgiveness of
sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations,
beginning from Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these
things. 49 And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father
upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with
power from on high.”
Acts 2:1–13 (ESV) — 1 When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all
together in one place. 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a sound
like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were
sitting. 3 And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on
each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began
to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. 5 Now there
were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation
under heaven. 6 And at this sound the multitude came together, and
they were bewildered, because each one was hearing them speak in
his own language. 7 And they were amazed and astonished, saying,
“Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 And how is it that
we hear, each of us in his own native language?
1 John 4:3–4 (ESV) — 3 and every spirit that does
not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of
the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is
in the world already. 4 Little children, you are from
God and have overcome them, for he who is in you
is greater than he who is in the world.
1 John 4:18 (ESV) — 18 There is no fear in love, but
perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with
punishment, and whoever fears has not been
perfected in love.
1 John 5:19–21 (ESV) — 19 We know that we are
from God, and the whole world lies in the power of
the evil one. 20 And we know that the Son of God
has come and has given us understanding, so that
we may know him who is true; and we are in him
who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true
God and eternal life. 21 Little children, keep
yourselves from idols.
1 Corinthians 6:2–3 (ESV) — 2 Or do you
not know that the saints will judge the world?
And if the world is to be judged by you, are
you incompetent to try trivial cases? 3 Do
you not know that we are to judge angels?
How much more, then, matters pertaining to
this life!
Daniel 7:22 (ESV) — 22 until the Ancient of Days came,
and judgment was given for the saints of the Most High,
and the time came when the saints possessed the
kingdom.
Ephesians 1:18–21 (ESV) — 18 having the eyes of
your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the
hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of
his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the
immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who
believe, according to the working of his great might 20
that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the
dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly
places, 21 far above all rule and authority and power
and dominion, and above every name that is named,
not only in this age but also in the one to come.
Ephesians 2:5–7 (ESV) — 5 even when we were
dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with
Christ—by grace you have been saved— 6 and
raised us up with him and seated us with him in
the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in
the coming ages he might show the immeasurable
riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ
Jesus.
Revelation 20:4 (ESV) — 4 Then I saw thrones, and
seated on them were those to whom the authority to
judge was committed. Also I saw the souls of those who
had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus and for
the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the
beast or its image and had not received its mark on their
foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned
with Christ for a thousand years.
Colossians 3:1–3 (ESV) — 1 If then you have been
raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where
Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your
minds on things that are above, not on things that are on
earth. 3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with
Christ in God.
